It Began with Strong Business Leaders

In early 1917, a group of enterprising leaders got together and decided to start an organization for the purpose of enhancing the business climate in the Pontiac area.  On May 17 of that same year it became official: the Pontiac Area Chamber of Commerce received its Articles of Incorporation.

The organization has gone through some changes over the years, but the core mission has remained the same: promoting the area as a great place to live, work, visit and do business.

Through the years, the Chamber has helped to establish other councils and organizations that are still going strong today including the city’s tourism department, the Greater Livingston County Economic Development Council and P.R.O.U.D.

The Chamber is still governed by a dedicated Board of Directors that set the vision and goals of the organization.

As we celebrate our beginnings, we pause to say thank you to all of the business leaders that have worked so hard to start and keep this organization going. It is through the members who have served on the board, on a committee and participated in Chamber activities that the Chamber has been allowed to grow and stand where we are today.

Our Mission

The mission of the Pontiac Area Chamber is to create and maintain a favorable business climate in the Pontiac area and to stimulate pride and involvement among its constituency.
